14 April 2026

Children aged 2 to 11 years can now get a needle-free influenza vaccine called FluMist.

Child recieving Flumist

This painless nasal spray is a great option for children who feel anxious about needles.

FluMist offers the same protection against influenza A and B as the standard flu vaccination.

Eligible children can access FluMist at:

  • GPs
  • pharmacies
  • community health clinics
  • Aboriginal Health Services.

Speak to your healthcare provider to see if FluMist is right for your child. Children who aren’t eligible for FluMist can still get the standard flu injection.

Influenza can cause serious illness in children, even those who are otherwise healthy.

The flu vaccine is recommended annually for everyone aged 6 months and up – and is the best protection against serious illness from influenza.
