World Hepatitis Day 2025 – It’s time for action
28 July 2025
World Hepatitis Day 2025 on 28 July aims to mobilise action on the virtual elimination of viral hepatitis C and improve treatment uptake of hepatitis B in Australia.
Almost 300,000 people in Australia are living with hepatitis B or hepatitis C, putting them at increased risk of chronic liver disease and liver cancer.
Hepatitis B and hepatitis C are caused by blood borne viruses (BBVs), meaning they can be passed when blood containing the virus enters the blood of another individual. Hepatitis B can also be transmitted during unsafe sex and during childbirth.
Fortunately, there are a range of treatments that make it possible for people with a hepatitis B, hepatitis C and other BBVs to live healthy lives.
There is a vaccine and effective treatment for hepatitis B. Hepatitis C has a cure. And both hepatitis B and C are preventable. For more information, visit blood-borne viruses or go to LookAfterYourBlood (external site).
There are lots of places where you can get tested for BBVs. Visit a health service where you feel comfortable or find a service.
The sooner you get tested, the sooner you can get treatment. Look after your blood.
