Free influenza vaccines extended to 31 July 2025 as cases continue to rise

26 June 2025

Western Australians will now have until 31 July to access free influenza vaccines, giving them more time to get protected as influenza cases continue to rise.

Vaccination not only protects individuals – it also helps safeguard the wider community, especially those most at risk of serious illness.

As of 15 June 2025, there have been 8,708 reported cases of influenza in WA and 1,579 related to hospitalisations. Children aged under 10 accounted for 18 per cent of hospital admissions, while adults aged 65 and over made up 37 per cent.

With influenza activity increasing, now is the time to get vaccinated and help reduce the spread of this potentially serious illness.

Since 1 March 2025, more than 763,000 Western Australians have received the influenza vaccine. Statewide coverage has reached 25 per cent, a slight increase compared to 23.2 per cent this time last year.

Influenza is a common, highly contagious, and potentially serious viral respiratory illness. Getting vaccinated during the cooler months offers the best protection during the peak transmission period.

As influenza viruses change over time, an annual influenza vaccination is recommended to ensure protection against the most current circulating strains.

The influenza vaccine is free for all Western Australians aged 6 months and over until the end of July. Vaccinations are available at participating:

  • GPs
  • Aboriginal Medical Services
  • community health clinics
  • pharmacies (for those aged 5 years and over).

While the vaccine is free, some providers may charge a consultation or service fee. Check for any additional costs before booking your appointment.
